Introduction: Women, as half of the country's population, play a key role in achieving sustainable development and increasing social resilience. Therefore, considering their abilities and characteristics in the field of disaster management, this article focuses on the Iranian context and presents solutions to strengthen their roles, citing research statistics.
Method: In this review study conducted in 2024, the researchers decided to examine concepts such as the role of women, sustainable development, and social resilience in disasters and accidents using a descriptive-analytical method and documentary study. A search for related studies among Persian and English articles was conducted through systematic computer searches of databases such as Magiran, Noormags, Scopus, Civilica, ISC, SID and Google and Google Scholar search engines. Finally, 20 articles were selected and reviewed.
Findings: Women, as one of the main groups in preserving the environment and achieving sustainable development, especially in crisis management, have a significant role in restoring the family and society to normalcy, as well as psychological stabilization of the affected. Therefore, their distinct role and needs should be considered. Because their physical and mental health affects the entire family and society. Promoting women's resilience and empowerment is one of the requirements for preserving environmental resources and dealing with disasters and eliminating their feedbacks, and is of great importance.
Conclusion: The role and presence of women in family management and their participation in reducing the risks of natural disasters in all dimensions, including social, cultural, and economic, etc. is important and pivotal. Women's empowerment should be achieved through education, social participation, removing barriers, and gender equality, which ultimately leads to reducing inequality and promoting sustainable development and increasing resilience.
