AB - Introduction: The importance of attracting and retaining volunteers and people’ participation is such that all the efforts and activities of Red Crescent society defined based on. The present study investigates the effective factors of attracting and retaining volunteers in Red Crescent society of Khorasan Razavi province. Method: In this cross-sectional survey, 350 volunteers selected and studied among the branches of high potential, low potential, and semi-potential areas of Khorasan Razavi province Red Crescent society using stratified sampling. Data was gathered by using questionnaire. Findings: According to the findings, volunteers are attracting to Red Crescent society with the aim of learning about safety and first aid. Other effective factors to attract volunteers can be noted including having skills appropriate to Red Crescent society activities, oral advertising through friends, family members, media, and environmental advertising in order of importance. In addition, satisfaction of the nature and content of the activity has been the most important factor to maintain volunteers. It means that the happier and more transparent volunteers’ activities in terms of tasks description and in accordance with their interests will increase their durability. Conclusion: The results show that one of the key trends of development and social participation in community is to strengthen the motivation of volunteers. The main part of strategies in attracting and maintaining volunteers refers to promote and to improve members’ awareness and recognition of the goals and activities about RCs society before and after membership.
