The Effect of Relief Education Based on Meta-Memory and Meta-Cognition Methods on the Learning of First Respondents of the Red Crescent Society

Introduction: Education is one of the most effective factors in adjustment and adaption of first respondents to the changing conditions of the present world. Creating a change in the attitudes of first respondents, preparing familiarity and readiness among them to increase work competencies for accepting critical a responsibility, and raising the level of efficiency are closely associated with education.  Accordingly, the present study aimed at investigating the effect of relief education based on meta-memory and meta-cognition methods on the learning of first respondents of the Red Crescent Society in Bandar-e Gaz.
Method: This study was semi-experimental using pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population included 100   first respondents of the Red Crescent Society in Bandar-e Gaz registered in 2017. Of the population, 40 subjects were selected as sample size while simple random sampling method was used (20 subjects in experimental group and 20 subjects in control group). The first respondents of the control group received relief education and first aid during five sessions while the experimental group received relief education and first aid based on meta-memory and meta-cognition methods. In order to collect data, a researcher-made questionnaire was used based on the book “Principles of First Aid and Resuscitation” by Ayubian and Purheydari (2010). Then, the data were analyzed in two parts; descriptive statistics such as frequency, mean and standard deviation as well as inferential statistics such as covariance analysis.
Findings: The results of covariance analysis indicated that the observed difference between the means in terms of group membership (experimental and control) in the post-test stage was significant at the alpha level of 0.5 (P <0.05). The effect of this intervention at the post-test was 23%; therefore, it can be concluded that relief education based on meta-memory and meta-cognition methods (experimental and control) had a significant effect on the learning of the first respondents. The statistical power of 0/603 indicated the statistical accuracy.
Conclusion: The results indicated that the relief education based on meta-memory and meta-cognition methods increases learning in the experimental group. As a result, it can be said that relief education based on meta-memory and meta-cognition methods affects learning.
